Good Afternoon,
Today was kindergarten wood day!!! We had so much fun doing many different hands on activities involving wood! Students started in our classroom where we discussed plywood (sandwich wood) and made our very own pieces of sandwich wood by gluing thin pieces of wood together. Plywood is very strong, we tried to break it in half and had no luck!
Then students went down to Mrs. Redding's room where they talked about sanding wood. Students received their very own piece of wood and a piece of sandpaper and went to work.
In Mrs. Dill's room, students made their own creations with sawdust, wood shavings, and a cornstarch mixture. These will turn into particle board creations as they dry over the weekend, and students will bring home all three of their wood projects on Monday.
This afternoon, students created the groundhog to go with their drawings from yesterday. Mrs. Huettl was all ready to hang them in the hallway, but too many friends wanted to bring their work home. So...here is their homework. Tomorrow (Feb. 2) is Groundhog's Day. Students must watch the news or read the paper to find out if the groundhog saw is shadow and then circle the corresponding picture on the bottom half of their papers. We will discuss the results on Monday.
Carter worked hard at choice time using picture cards to make lots of different creations!
Dylan was the kindergarten AR drawing winner this week! Congratulations!
I hope everyone stays warm this evening, especially if you are heading out to the Winter Family Fun Night!
Your "Wood Day" celebration is so nice. The children are really enjoying it. Thank you for sharing such a great post.
