Good Afternoon!
Today was a wonderful day to be in kindergarten! Who doesn't love then first real snowfall of the season?!?!? We enjoyed ourselves outside at recess today. Remember to start packing all those winter clothes, including boots and snowpants. We will be going outside all winter, unless temp dip to dangerously cold levels (which is bound to happen at some point) :)
This morning we had our final lesson from Mr. Brooks. He taught us about communication and being good listeners. We even helped him to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich!!
We also started our new story Dig, Dig, Digging. We have some great amazing words this week: scooping, swooshing, squelching, gobbling, spinning, and rumbling. We will be using these words in some of our work later in the week.
We went to the library today. We have been having fun "sneaking" up on Ms. Nyhus at the check-out counter. We are so quiet so doesn't even know we are there!!!
This afternoon we had our first official handwriting lesson! We worked really hard on our upper and lowercase letter M,m. Students circled the letter they felt they did their best on. Check them out!
I'm am excited to start meeting with parents tomorrow at conferences!
Have a great evening!

Mrs. Huettl

Sumo!
What a fun day! Wow!
This morning Mr. Brooks taught us a math lesson on teen numbers. We focused on teen numbers being a set of ten, plus some more. For example, the number 14 is ten and 4 more. By presenting the numbers in this way, students will develop a greater number sense around the teen numbers, rather than just identifying the digits.
We are also working on our number writing. We practiced writing on each others backs today!
We had our school-wide Read-a-thon celebration! Congratulations to Carter, Skyler, Lena and Lucy for making it into the 1,000 minute club!!! A special congrats to Lena for being one of the Top Readers in Kindergarten!!!
At the assembly we watched Master Boltz break 7 bricks!
We saw a sumo wrestling match between Mr. Tinjum and Mrs. Bowman.
Mrs. Huettl danced with the Rockin' Readers!
This afternoon we worked on journaling with the ipads. We are still working out some kinks, but I am excited for where this experience will take us in our story telling as we become more and more familiar with the process. We were able to get several students journals uploaded. Some of us are starting to tell stories, others are loving hearing our own voices, so there is a bit of variety as you will see. There is no right or wrong way:)
Alex V.'s Journal Alex P.'s Journal Daniel's Journal
Ella's Journal Sam's Journal Skyler's Journal
Jesse's Journal Lena's Journal Lucy's Journal
Natalie's Journal Sophee's Journal Willa's Journal
I hope you are all enjoying your weekend. I look forward to the upcoming week and meeting with each of you to discuss your amazing children at our parent/teacher conference!

We had four different centers today where we worked on the following skills:
We started to really focus in on the teen numbers today as well!

We had four different centers today where we worked on the following skills:
- Character-we created a pig, just like the character Julius in our story.
- Nouns-we sorted pictures of people and animals
- Sight Words-we rolled the dice and graphed our six sight words that we have learned so far.
- Technology- students continued to work on their individualized learning path on ABC Mouse
We started to really focus in on the teen numbers today as well!
Have a wonderful evening! Tomorrow is our Read-a-thon celebration!

Let's Vote!
Good Afternoon!
Today was a somewhat crazy day in kindergarten. With Somerset being an active polling site for the election, we have had a busy school all day!
Happy Birthday Alex!!!
This morning we listened to reading on the ipads using Tumblebooks, which you can access from the Somerset Media and Technology web page. We also continued our one on one assessments for first quarter.
In math today we had to put stickers on a number board. The number of stickers had to match the number in the left hand column.
We voted this morning! We went down to the library and each cast our vote for the Somerset election. Results will be announced tomorrow morning on the announcements.
This afternoon we worked hard in our journals. Tomorrow is our last day in these journals. We are running out of pages! We will start our new kindergarten journals next week!
We welcomed Mr. Brooks today. Mr. Brooks is a student from St. Scholastica that is studying to become a teacher. Mr. Brooks will be with us the rest of this week, and Monday of next week.
Have a great evening! I can't believe it's getting dark already!

Friendship
Today we introduced our story Julius and focused on the friendship between the two main characters, Julius (the pig) and Maya (a little girl).
We also wrapped up our loose ends with our Science unit on trees.
A lot of assessment is taking place this week. There has been so many gains already this year! You will be so impressed when we get together during our parent teacher conferences next week!
I apologize for the short post this evening, but I am dealing with a sick child at home tonight...not much fun :(
See you tomorrow!
Love,
Mrs. Huettl

Writing our Numbers
Friday was a fun day in kindergarten!
First we had a delayed visit from Zero the Hero! He had a tummy ache from his Halloween candy and didn't make it our room on the 40th day of school, but he did come on the 41st day! He brought us zero stickers-a kiss from Zero the Hero.
We met with our buddies and played Fall Harvest Bingo!
We are beginning to work on writing our numbers! On Friday we practiced writing our numbers in shaving cream at our table spots! So much fun!
In the afternoon we put together our Poem Notebooks. I hope you enjoyed reading our apple poem this weekend!
See you in the morning!

ipads!
What a fun day!
We worked on categorizing today! We put different pictures into categories that were in our Miss Bindergarten story.
We had SMART time this morning and worked on the same skills as last week.
Next week all Somerset students will participate in a mock election. Today the 4th graders came in and we registered to vote by filling out a card with our names and classrooms. Tuesday we will "vote" for the president!
This afternoon we took out the ipads again for some journaling. This time, we practiced recording our stories. With a little trial and error, I was able to get a link to a couple of the stories! Click the links below:
Natalie's Journal
Carter's Journal
Alex V's Journal
Today during choice time, some friends used the blocks to create a large domino chain! Check this out: (There is video as well, but it's being stubborn...I'll try again later to upload!)
